Förbjudna staden ligger som hjärtat i Peking, intill himmelska fridens torg och Mausoleet. Runt detta ligger andra viktiga byggnader som parlamentet och kommunistiska högborgen d.v.s. regeringen m.m. Förbjudna staden var färdigbyggs 1420 och nu är det officiella namnet Palatsmuseet (Gugong). Gugong representerar det dynastiska Kina och 24 kejsare under knappt 500 år. Palatset var medelpunkten i Kinas universum och exklusiv mark för det kejserliga hovet och höga ämbetsmän fram till kejsardömets fall 1921. Förbjudna staden består av (typ) 4 gårdar.

Den mittersta porten får bara Kejsaren gå igenom och Kejsarinnan en gång, det är när hon står brud.

Ju längre in man kommer desto färre dödliga ägde tillträde. Längst in bodde och levde kejsaren och kejsarinnan i var sina palats. Kejsaren hade inte långt till sina konkubiner. Antalet konkubiner har varierat mellan ett tiotal och över 3000 skönheter för olika kejsare. De flesta konkubiner fick aldrig träffa Kejsaren om det nu var tur eller otur, det kan väl diskuteras.
